  1. His full name is Pallewatte Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena
  2. Joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 1979
  3. In 1989, contested for the general elections from the Polonnaruwa District and became a member of the parliament
  4. In the general elections of 1994, obtained the highest number of preferential votes
  5. In 1994 was appointed the Minister for River Basin Development and Rajarata Development
  6. Currently serving as the Minister of Health in the current government of Sri Lanka.
