- In 1994 was appointed the Minister for River Basin Development and Rajarata Development
- Currently serving as the Minister of Health in the current government of Sri Lanka.

Perception of Religion
Lately with all these religion hate crimes and so called religious uprisings, it got me thinking on something interesting.I know I am going into a very sensitive subject so bear with me and read to the end and then consider what you have to say,
I am not going into debating religions, what I am trying to figure out is what it means to follow a religion.
Based on recent events and from comments I have read, it seems most people are not aware of a very fundamental concept regarding religion.
So, here it is in bold. "ALL RELIGIONS ARE AN INTERPRETATION OF A SINGLE ENTITY"
Lets face it, you cannot have Evolution and Adam and Eve, Nirvana and All mighty and so on and on. There can be only one definition for our existence.
If there is an all mighty god, then there cannot be a Nirvana. If Allah exist, either all mighty is Allah, or All mighty cannot exist, there cannot be a Islam God and a Christian God at the same time, Hindu Gods will not exist side by side with the Greek Gods and so on...
So, as most followers of religion, assume your religion is the "true" religion, then that makes all other religion followers actually are of the same religion as yours just not following it.
For example, if you are Buddhist and believe in Nirvana, all people around you are "to you" judged by the same rules of Buddhism irrespective of his or her beliefs which means to you every one is a Buddhist.
Further, for a Christian, whether a person is following Islam, Buddhism or Hindu, he/she is just another Christian. Same for Buddhism, for a Buddhists, all followers and non-followers of Buddhism are Buddhists.
Hence by definition, if a Christian kill a Muslim in the name of religion, what is actually happening is a Christian killing a Christian who is just not following/believing it. Same goes for when a Muslim kills a Buddhist, a Hindu killing Muslim, the list goes on and on...
There is nothing called killing in the name of a religion. Do not justify a killing based religion as it is meaningless. What is happening is someone or a group killing a brother or sister just because he or she although is of the same religion, is not following the religion as you want/expect him or her to.

How a newbie started blogging.
- Start simple. Google's Blogging platform Blogger.com is one of the simplest platforms I've seen. Believe me I tried many including WordPress, Drupal (A nightmare for a newbie) and other platforms to no vain.
- If you have your own domain you can set it up to redirect traffic to Blogspot.com. This means, if you own domain aaa.com you could point aaa.com to your blog ccc.blopspot.com so when anyone enter aaa.com you will see your blog (the url will remain the same).
- Even better, you can point sub-domains to different blogs so bbb.aaa.com can point to xxx.blogspot.com while eee.aaa.com can point to yyy.blogspot.com. The limit are endless
- The next thing to do is find a decent template. Blogger have some existing templates but if you are serious, please find a better template. There are millions out there. Free and paid.
- Once you have the template uploaded and the blog configured, start posting something. I always get stuck here trying to tweak here and there making the perfect blog and ended up with no content. So my advice is go for it. Fill out the rest in time like the About page, Blogrolls and menus.
That's pretty much it. If anyone is interested to get a more detailed version, please comment and I will try to post more detailed instructions on how I created my blogs. For the seasoned bloggers out there, I may be doing so many things wrong in so many different levels so appreciate if you can provide some comments to improve the blog.

End of the World
Lets consider the phase "End of the World". What constitutes to be the end of the world? Definition for end of the world from Oxford Dictionary is "the termination of life on the earth." which I think is not 100% correct. But still better than what most people think. I think the end of the world is the complete annihilation of the planet Earth. Something I don't think will happen for a long time. Most people regard the end of the world as the extinction of the human race which is naive and selfish.
There is proof that we (the planet earth) have survived such catastrophes in the past and I am pretty sure it will survive millions of such catastrophes to come. The earth is too rich is life to die out for a long time.
Suppose today the whole surface of earth get wiped out from a direct hit from an asteroid. After 100-200 year, some life form will spring back and populate earth and in 100,000 years some specie will be typing a blog on the same thing sitting at the same location.
What we should be worrying about is not the end of the world but the end of the human race. Earth can take care of itself on its own. But can we?
In that context anyone predicting the world will end within the the next million years is nothing but a liar or a fake.

Electricity Price Hike
Starting off with some archive stuff. This is something I have written as a comment on the news article here. It became the most popular comment so thought of including it here.
For those who do not know the Sinhala language, please comment and I will be more than happy to post the translation.
In a nutshell, the government increased the electricity tariffs in Sri Lanka in April 2013 only to revise again in May 2013. It was a steep hike and as expected, at the next government rally the president reduce the hike by a fraction, cooling down and becoming a hero in front of the people who would have been as mad as if the price hike was the new hike. A Win win by the president.

Introduction
Greetings. This is the first post and hopefully more content will roll out in the future. Most of the blogs I have seen and in fact I checked when trying to come up with a blog name are one pagers. One post and that is it.
So the base for this blog is to capture/share random thoughts that run through my mind.
